Robin Roberts
NATIONAL RECIPIENT
AWARD WINNING JOURNALIST

Her face shines in the living rooms of America. Her words
provoke a nation's thoughts and evoke its emotions. NBCSL is proud to award the title of nation builder to Robin Roberts.

As arguably the finest TV anchor in the country, Robin Roberts is
more than a role model for young women. She is more than a role model for black Americans. She is more than a role model for aspiring journalists. She is the epitome of excellence for people of any gender, color, and professional
endeavor.

After regional anchoring stints in Atlanta and Nashville, Robin
Roberts splashed onto the national television scene when she was hired by ESPN in 1990. In the 13 years since this date, Roberts has become a fixture on such shows as Sunday Sports Day, NFL Prime Time, and Sports Center. She is equally at home in the studio or the announcer's booth, and has provided live coverage of sporting events ranging from the Winter and Summer Olympics to the men's and women's Final Four, the Ladies Professional Golf Association, Grand Slam tennis tournaments, and the National Football League draft, to name just a few

In 1999, she took over as host of ABC's Saturday sports program Wide World of Sports-one of the most prestigious posts in all of sports broadcasting. While most broadcasters specialize in a single sport, Roberts is versed in the nuances and vocabulary
of multiple sports, placing her in a select category of broadcast professionals.

It was only a matter of time before Robert's compelling reporting and her commanding camera presence took her from the sports
desk to the main desk. Most Americans now recognize her as the news anchor for ABC's Good Morning America. Her reporting on such topics as the gentrification of Harlem, stem-cell research and Internet adoptions has already placed her among leading broadcast journalists in this field as well.

Roberts attended Southeastern Louisiana University on a basketball scholarship and graduated cum laude with a degree in Communications. Robert credits the scholarship opportunities created by Title IX of the 1972 Education Code for her college
education. Her record-setting performance on the women's basketball team earned her a place in Southern Louisiana University's Athletic Hall of Fame.

Among her many awards are the Distinguished Achievement Award in Broadcasting from the University of Georgia's Di Gamma Kappa Society, the President's Award from the Women's Sports
Foundation, and the Ebony magazine Outstanding Journalist Award at its 2002 Outstanding Women in Marketing and
Communications Awards. The Women's Institute on Sports and Education has created the Robin Roberts Sports Journalism
Scholarship. Last but not least, three Emmy Awards testify to the singular talents of this remarkable journalist.

On top of her rigorous work schedule, Roberts is active as a speaker for charity and civic functions and is involved in a family
foundation to increase the number of mentors available for young people.

ROBERTS HAS NOT ONLY REPORTED ON CHAMPIONS IN THE WORLD OF SPORTS. SHE IS HERSELF A CHAMPION-OF
INTEGRITY, DEDICATION AND SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC.
