JURISDICTION

The Hurricane Task Force principal responsibilities include raising awareness that African-American state legislators are responding to the needs of the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita; helping coordinate relief and recovery assistance in affected areas; and fostering collaboration between elected officials, public and private relief agencies, and community-based organizations.

TOPIC

After the Storm: Katrina and Beyond

The Hurricane Task Force will update implementation of NBCSL’s 10-Point Action Plan. Panelists will discuss the racial disparity in the settlement of insurance claims, and explore what NBCSL can do to address the unmet needs of hurricane survivors and promote disaster preparedness.
