JURISDICTION

This committee considers policies which encourage foreign investment, such as trade agreements, and export-import promotion. It promotes participation of African Americans in the global economy. This committee seeks to 1) develop and strengthen relationships with nations and people of color in Africa and throughout the world by focusing on the exchange of educational culture, material business, and financial resources and 2) develop broader foreign policy perspectives that will address human rights, economic development, health and environment, peace and democracy primarily as they relate to Africa and the African Diaspora.

TOPIC

Relieving the African Debt and Divestment in Sudan

This policy session will concentrate on economic issues affecting African countries, many African countries are forced to divert money from health care, education, and economic development to make interest payments on foreign debt. This policy session will explore ways to assist in providing relief to African countries.

Sudan Divestment is an effort to stop the genocide that has been going on in Darfur. For four years genocide has been occurring in Darfur. To date it is believed that more than 200,000 have died in the Darfur conflict. The failure of the international community to work to end the genocide has led to a number of states, cities and institutions around the world to act.
