National Black Caucus of State Legislators Response to President Biden’s SOTU Address

WASHINGTON, DC. – The National Black Caucus of State Legislators released the following statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address to the nation:

NBCSL applauds President Biden on the work he has done for the American people during his first two years in office, especially our constituents whom we represent in our respective districts. We acknowledge President Biden’s efforts to end the COVID-19 crisis, create more jobs, and recover our economy.

As state legislators, we are happy to see the investments in our states and growing our economy by creating good-paying jobs and lowering costs for families. We commend President Biden for delivering on his promises to help middle- and working-class families, the signing of the massive infrastructure law, and providing resources to build bridges to connect our communities together.

“I am pleased with the work President Biden has done on behalf of the American people. His vision to restore the soul of the nation, rebuild the middle class, and unite this country has contributed greatly to many of the districts we represent,” said Representative Laura Hall (AL), NBCSL President, “President Biden’s commitment to recovering our economy following one of the world’s most deadly public health crisis deserves applause.”

NBCSL is proud of the work President Biden continues to do in office. He has reduced the unemployment rate to 3.4%, a 50-year low, which is a record low unemployment for Black and Hispanic workers. We are pleased with the accomplishments thus far by the Administration—the resources that have been allotted to our states have helped us as state legislators to advocate for constituents in our state legislatures.

Lastly, there is still much work to be done and NBCSL joins the Administration in urging Congress to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. Congress must pass policy to enact measures of accountability and ensure those who are put in place serve and protect us uphold their oaths as officers. NBCSL will continue to work on behalf of our constituents and support the Biden Administration where needed.

NBCSL is the nation’s premier organization exclusively serving the interests of African American state legislators. With more than 700 members collectively representing over 60 million Americans, NBCSL serves as a national network, advocate and catalyst for public policy innovation, information exchange, and joint action on critical issues.
